| Data | Where it goes |
|---|---|
| Your sessions, streak, cups, and settings | Your device only. Never uploaded. |
| Your name, if you enter one | Your device only. |
| Location | Your coordinates never leave your device. They're checked against your café's address on the phone itself, twice per session. What we do receive is which café you chose and whether the check passed — see below. |
| Motion (accelerometer) | Never leaves your device. Used only to tell whether the phone is lying flat on a table. |
| Your email address, if you sign in | Sent to our server. This is the one piece of personal information we hold — see below. You can use Crema without signing in at all. |
| Anonymous café statistics | Sent to our server — see below. |
When you finish a study session at a café, Crema sends exactly this:
Plus one record if you vote for a café you'd like us to sign.
Why: so we can show a café owner that students really do study in their shop. That evidence is what persuades them to fund the rewards. Without it there are no rewards.
What is never sent: your location coordinates, the times of day you study, your device identifiers, or anything about what you were studying.
Being straight with you about one thing. Which café you studied at, on which day, is information about where you were. If you have signed in, that record shares an identifier with your email address, which means we are technically able to connect the two. We don't do that — cafés only ever receive totals, never anything about an individual — but we'd rather tell you it's possible than claim an anonymity we can't prove. If that bothers you, use Crema without signing in, or switch the setting off in Settings → Privacy.
Settings → Privacy → Help improve Crema. The app works exactly the same with it off.
Signing in is optional — everything in Crema works as a guest. If you do sign in with Apple or with an email address, we store:
What we use it for: to email you about Crema — a café near you joining, a significant change, or a reply to something you sent us. We do not sell it, share it, or hand it to cafés, and we do not send marketing on anyone else's behalf.
Settings → Your data → Delete my account and data. That removes your email address and your entire study history from our server immediately, and it cannot be undone. You don't have to email anyone or ask permission.
Nobody. We do not sell, rent or share personal information. There is no advertising network, no analytics SDK, and no third-party tracking in Crema. Cafés receive only aggregate totals — "23 people, 180 hours" — never information about an individual.
Our server runs on Cloudflare, which processes the request on our behalf.
Anonymous statistics are retained for up to 24 months and then deleted. Data on your device stays until you delete it or remove the app.
Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) and, where applicable, the GDPR, you can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be deleted, or object to its use. Because the statistics are anonymous we usually cannot link them to a person — but if you email us the random identifier shown in Settings we will delete those rows. Deleting the app also stops all collection immediately.

Crema is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
If this policy changes materially we will update the date above and note the change in the app.
